While driving thru Portland today I had to stop into Voodoo Doughnuts. It is a doughnut shop out of the ordinary. And that's a good thing.
I love businesses that take a regular or even boring industry and make it fun, memorable, unique and remarkable.
That's what Voodoo has done for doughnuts and as a result the lineup at 10am was out the door and down the block.
Nothing but ordinary is all I can say to describe the place as we finally ordered a maple glaze with full strips of bacon on top. Every doughnut was a work of art and topped or filled with some crazy concoction or mixture and the prices were $3-4 per doughnut. But damn our bacon maple was awesome.
Anyone can buy the ingredients and make a doughnut - or a cup of coffee or sell office supplies - so what makes some companies like Voodoo stand out? I think it's the passion to be unique, be different, be remarkable and wow their customers with something people didn't even know they wanted till it was presented to them. Again, we can buy a doughnut anywhere - but not a Voodoo Doughnut experience!
As Voodoo says... The magic is in the hole!
Cheers
