 Leap year meditation

Once in four years, just once, perhaps we could:

Forgive, forget, relax, care, stand out, speak up, contribute, embrace, create, make a ruckus, give credit, skip, smile, speak truth and refuse to compromise--more than we usually do. Pick just one or two and start there.

Hey, it's just one day.

Careful, though, it might become a habit.

Birthday Lunch with Uncle Calvin

Once again it is Birthday Lunch with Uncle Calvin.

As always, I host a lunch on the last Friday with any staff member who has their birthday in that month.
Today it was Lucas, Kathie and Todd. After a great lunch and some wonderful and diverse conversation with my dining companions it was off to the adjoining casino.

Uncle Calvin always gives $5 at your birthday lunch, and the goal is to turn that into the most winnings in 15 min. Last month Nabil our VP of Finance broke into the lead with $15, but today it was Todd who turned $5 into $22.70...

but then walked over to the blackjack table and quickly turned that amount into $65.

Todd now holds the Uncle Calvin Birthday Lunch Crown! Congrats Todd.

The Time Machine

Happiness is..........new computers and software.

 
 Just see Nabil hugging his new servers from December 7th.

Well here is Pat in our Finance department giving a big smile and thumbs up to our new time clock system. Now each staff member has a lanyard and magnetic card that they just waive over the "Time Machine" and it records their time. A big improvement over our old desk top computer time system.

The best part is what the "Time Machine" says when you log out.

Work Happy! That's our motto.

Web Launch!

Today I came in the sales office to see this awesome white board. Shawn, our VP of Sales and Marketing, had come in early to create a training board for our LT's (Loyalty Team) that explained some of the cool features of our new website.

During the next 8 weeks, we will be rolling customers over to our new site and today was the kickoff.

It was great to see the excitement building and the entire company working together to learn. Funny - our THEME this quarter is Learning!

Entrepreneurs Organization Raises $100,000 for the kids.

On the phone!

Today I was honored to be a part of the Variety Club Children's Charity Telethon.

This is a slight change from my usual work with BC Children's Hospital, but in the end all the money we raise goes to help children, and isn't that whats its really all about?

I was invited to be a part of the on-air phone panel along with 30 other members of the Vancouver EO chapter. We met early at the Coquitlam Cactus Club before it opened for a great breakfast, thanks to owner and EO member Andrew Latchford. During breakfast, we had a very inspiring talk from Peter Legge, who challenged our group to raise as much money in one hour on the phones and it would be matched by Vancouver Business icon Joe Segal.

I'm proud to say our group raised $50,000 during our brief time on the phones. We all tapped into our business networks and were amazed at the amount of giving we received. With the match from Joe Segal, that total was raised to $100,000 and all the money went directly to hearing aids for children. I was told over 40 children will receive state of the art hearing aids and the more importantly - the gift of hearing!!!

Thanks to everyone for supporting the children on an inspiring day.
